AUTOmail, Version 1.0, by Shawn Stoddard, FIDOnet 1:362/101.0
Automatic Mail Hold/Release Mailer Utility for Opus/BinkleyTERM/Maximus
Remember the days when it was pure luck when ECHOmail messages were
lucky to get from one side of town to the other side in under twelve
hours? Those were the days.... With the advent of mailer-software
like OPUS v1.0+, BinkleyTERM, and other mailers the phrase
"continious mail" became common place. The problem was that with mail
being packed right after entry a system with any traffic would be
calling out dropping off little 300 byte ARCmail files often. There
was a way to restrict calling by time, but not by size. With that
idea at heart AUTOmail was born.
As a HUB here in NET362 I deal with lots of mail. I was forever
calling out madly trying to drop off very small amounts of mail. I
never had time for my users. AUTOmail changes the scheduling problem
from time to size. Instead of calling out on a fixed schedule, we'll
drop off who has more mail waiting to be shipped than we like. It's
real simple.
oMMM, QMAIL, or any mail processer that supports an Opus-compatible
outbound holding area is run like normal, but instead of packing with
CRASH status you pack with HOLD status. Next you run AUTOmail. It
will examine your HOLD area and if the selected node(s) have ARCmail
or other files with sizes totalling more than the set limit the
files is marked for CRASH shipment.
The location of the HOLD area is definable, but defaults to OUTBOUND
relative to your current directory.
AUTOmail net/node -Hhold_path
net/node ........ YOUR address on FIDOnet
hold_path ....... Holding area Path (NO backslash needed) (optional)
The control file is ALWAYS called AUTOmail.Ctl and should be located
in the current directory. It's format is simple net/node max_size.
362/106 20400
362/130 4096
362/302 70000
Give it a whirl and let me know if you have problems, bugs, or see any
needed additions or extras. I'm always glad to consider new ideas and
continue to add new features to any of my utilitys. Simply
put.....Enjoy!
